Alternatives To A First Look
When I got married almost three years ago my husband did not want to do a first look. He wanted to keep things traditional and see me for the first time when I walked down the aisle. I could have gone either way, so I was totally fine with skipping the first look. Now that I’ve photographed a ton of weddings, I’ve loved seeing people do these Alternatives to a First Look
If I could go back and get married all over again I would do a different type of first look, not with my husband, but with my bridesmaids!
Your bridesmaids will always be your biggest hype girls, so the reaction is always amazing.
My favorite part about a first look with your girls is that you don’t have to give anything up. You still get to go through the entire getting ready process with your girls. My favorite memories from my wedding day were hanging out with my best friends and getting ready together (next to marrying my husband, of course!). Once you’re all done with your hair and makeup, your bridesmaids will step into the other room while you put your dress on. Most brides like to have that special moment with their mom anyway. That way she can zip up your dress for you and you can spend that quiet moment together.

All we had to do was add 5-minutes into the timeline so that Kara could meet her dad for a first look on her way to the ceremony. It’s not a big production at all, just your add seeing his little girl all dressed up 🙂
If you and your fiance have decided that a traditional first look isn’t for you, that’s totally fine! Your wedding is all about doing whatever you want to do. These are just ideas I wish I knew about when I was planning my wedding!

I love both of these variations on the first look and starting including them in my pre-wedding questionnaire because I think they are so cute! Sometimes couples don’t even realize they are an option!

Oh these are such amazing alternatives to a first look. I’m finding more couples leaning into the traditional this year and these are great options. I did a first look with my dad and it is one of my favourite memories from my wedding. I was a puddle haha!
