Jay & Mack – Maui Couples Photography

Have I mentioned that I love Adventure Sessions?!

Jay & Mack are talented videographers based out of Southern California. They’ve been to Maui before, but wanted to come back again to celebrate their 1-year anniversary!

Jay & Mack have a love story out of the movies. They grew up as neighbors and fell in love over time. They started a videography business together and get to travel all over the world to make wedding films. Sounds like a dream to me!

The two wanted to spend more than just an hour together for their 1-year anniversary photography session, so they booked an Adventure Session. It’s no secret that these are my favorite types of shoots. I love to show my couples the side of Maui that I spent my childhood exploring. 

If you want to see waterfalls on Maui, you have to do the Road To Hana. It’s at least a 2.5-hour drive each way to make it all the way out to Hana. The road is popular and busy, especially during Maui’s heavy tourist season (Mid December-Mid April). For that reason, we decided to do a sunrise session. This way we were able to avoid traffic on the way out (traffic can really add to your travel time) and we were able to visit popular locations while they were empty. For example, Wainapanapa State Park (the famous black sand beach) is usually crowded. Since we were there at 6 am, no one else was on the beach.

Sunrise Sessions mean an early wake-up call, but I promise it’s SO worth it. Maui doesn’t have anything to do at night anyway, so going to bed early and waking up early really is the best way to do Maui.

I left my house at 4 am for this session all the way out in Hana and it was So.Much.Fun. We jumped from beach to beach and ended the session swimming in a waterfall.
